This compound is extremely lethal, with two drops enough to kill you. Dimethylmercury is one of the stongest known neurotoxins, but has a deceptively sweet smell - not that you’d mind in the end. If you can smell it, you’re going to be dead in awhile.
Dimethylmercury is hard to handle: it can pass through latex, PVC, butyl, and neoprene within seconds. It won’t surprise you to know that it also passes through skin without trouble and across the blood-barrier.
The human body cannot break down dimethylmercury very quickly, and therefore it can accumulate in a effect called bioaccumulation. The brain and liver damage caused by dimethylmercury can be delayed by months, not allowing for proper treatment and thereby being lethal.
